GeViP - Violence and neglect in informal home care

Based on the current state of research and existing practical approaches, well-founded recommendations for action aimed at the early detection of violence in care settings, as well as setting-specific practical measures, are to be developed. This will take into account violence in both directions: from family carers towards people in need of care, as well as from people in need of care towards their family members.
In the first year of the project, two systematic literature reviews will be conducted to identify and evaluate suitable methods for addressing and recording violence, as well as effective intervention approaches. In addition, online surveys and interviews will be carried out with stakeholders from various settings. The aim is to identify existing approaches and barriers to addressing violence in informal home care. Particular attention will be paid to care assessments carried out by the Medical Services under Sections 18a and 18b of Book XI of the Social Code (SGB XI), advisory visits under Section 37(3) of SGB XI, and care counselling under Sections 7a and 7c of SGB XI. Furthermore, specific local support services will be surveyed as part of the questionnaires.
Based on the findings, the multi-professional study team is developing proposals for possible measures to be implemented in care practice within the three settings mentioned – care assessment, advisory visits and care counselling – or, from January 2028, future care support within the framework of the Care Reorganisation Act. The proposals developed will then be assessed for their feasibility on a setting-specific basis using the scientific Delphi group method. A concluding networking workshop will serve to identify points of interface, opportunities for cooperation and the prerequisites for improved collaboration between the stakeholders involved. The results will ultimately be translated into concrete recommendations for action for the practical settings focused on in the project.
