Language Courses

The Catholic University of Applied Sciences Freiburg offers a wide range of language learning opportunities.
 
This enables you to expand your foreign language skills, learn new languages or prepare for a stay abroad or an exchange with international cooperation partners.

The language courses listed in the course catalog provide you with the opportunity to prepare specifically for upcoming studies or internship stays abroad, improve your existing language skills or learn other languages.
Numerous languages are offered in the course program.

All language instructors are native speakers and qualified language teachers with many years of teaching experience. The language courses are free of charge for all students.

The language course offer is created and implemented in cooperation with the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg. Registration occurs at the beginning of the semester during the first session of the course. No pre-registration is required.

Foreign language skills are relevant in all areas of work at the University. The Catholic University of Applied Sciences Freiburg encourages its teaching, research and administrative staff to constantly improve their language skills. 
You will find ways you can refresh and improve your foreign language skills below. The International Office  is happy to advise you if you have any questions.
  

1.  Participation in language courses for students

Together with the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg, the Catholic University of Applied Sciences Freiburg organizes a variety of language courses at different levels every semester. 
The courses listed in the Course Catalog  are also open to all University employees, provided there are still places available. Participation is free of charge.

Are you interested? 
Then you can join the course on the first day at the times listed in the course catalog (in German). You can register directly during the course. Preregistration is not necessary.

2. The International DAAD-Academy (iDA) language courses

The international DAAD Academy  offers various types of continuing education courses for University members in the fields of teaching, research, administration and science management. These include language courses oriented towards these named target groups.

3.    Self-study materials

As an alternative to language courses, the following self-study materials are available at no charge. 

International DAAD Academy, (iDA)
The international DAAD Academy (iDA) offers materials for independent learning for University members. The materials are aimed at University administrators and teaching staff. 

 

a) Self-study materials for KH administration staff 

The iDA has self-study materials for University administrative staff in the following areas:  : 

  • Student registration/administration
  • Human Resources departments
  • Research departments
  • Examination offices 
  • Student advisory services
  • Department chair and faculty offices 
  • Useful phrases and language tips

The iDA website also has a comprehensive German-English glossary available.

b) Self-study materials „Teaching in the foreign language – Teaching in English“

For teachers, there are also self-study materials available on various topics: 

  • Lectures
  • Feedback
  • Small group teaching
  • One-on-one meetings
  • Lab work

Additionally, there is a German-English glossary especially for teachers on the iDA website.

4. Process for language course participation

Are you interested in improving your language skills? Then contact your supervisor. They will decide whether and to what extent the language course you have chosen can be counted as work time or further training. Decisions are made individually and depend on your area of responsibility.
